Kalti Lake- A Wonder Lake Of Ghizer

Have you heard of a frozen lake in Pakistan? Kalti Lake also known as Frozen Lake is located in the Gobis Valley in the Gize district of Gilgit-Baltistan. It is 2354 meters long, 460 meters wide, and has a maximum depth of 80 feet.

Although this lake is rich in water resources and economical, it is famous for its unique water quality. It is completely frozen every winter, suitable for walking and even playing as an ice rink, so it is called a “frozen lake”.

The PTDC Motel is located on the edge of this frozen lake, making it convenient for tourists and gamblers alike. The lake is located off the main road and is easily accessible, it only takes 2 hours to reach the lake from the main city of Gilgit.

What makes the view of this lake even more stunning is that it is surrounded by the giant mountains of the Hindu Kush Mountains. Locals are more friendly to their guests, welcoming them with love and warmth. For this reason, the valley is often referred to as the “Land of Hospitality“.

The lake has the potential to become an international tourist destination, and the Gilgit Baltistan local government should organize appropriate winter sports festivals to encourage different teams to take part in these sports. Unfortunately, the lack of good hotels and restaurants for tourists and lack of infrastructure is another problem. The main problem facing this valley is poor internet service. 2G internet connections in the area are slow, making it nearly impossible to view the lake on social media.

Winter Festival at Kalti Lake

A three-day winter sports festival is held annually at Kalti Frozen Lake.

It is organized by the Gilgit-Baltistan Ministry of Tourism in cooperation with the Ministry of Ghizer. Above all, the festival aims to promote winter tourism in Ghizer.
