Detailed 6-Day Route & Daily Schedule
Day 1: Departure from Islamabad to Chilas via Karakoram Highway
We will depart early from your designated pick-up location in Rawalpindi or Islamabad. Our route takes us through Hazara Motorway, passing Abbottabad and Mansehra for our first short rest stop. From there, we continue along the scenic Indus River via Besham and Dassu, arriving at our evening destination in Chilas. Check-in at the comfortable Shangri-La Chilas Hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Scenic Drive from Chilas to Lower Kachura Lake (Shangrila)
After enjoying breakfast at the Shangri-La Midway Hotel Chilas, we drive toward the unique meeting point of the world’s three highest mountain ranges at Jaglot. From there, we transition onto the dramatic Gilgit-Skardu Road, tracking toward the Kachura district situated just before the main city center. Our day concludes at the breathtaking Lower Kachura Lake (famously known as Shangrila Lake), checking into your selected accommodation tier.
Day 3: Exploring Upper Kachura, Sarfaranga Cold Desert, & Shigar Fort
Today’s morning excursion begins with a gentle 20-minute walk from Shangrila to the deep blue waters of Upper Kachura Lake. After spending an hour taking in the scenery, we head deeper into the valley toward Shigar. Here, we explore the historic Shigar Fort—a stunningly restored 17th-century Royal Palace—and traverse the surreal high-altitude sand dunes of the Sarfaranga Cold Desert before driving back to our hotel base.
Day 4: High-Altitude Excursion to Deosai Plains & Sheoshar Lake
Following an early breakfast, we embark on a full-day rugged 4×4 expedition to Deosai National Park, the second-highest plateau on Earth. This wildlife-rich alpine zone is a major highlight of our short northern route. We will explore the iconic plains of Chhota Pani and Bara Pani, eventually reaching the crystalline waters of Sheoshar Lake. After a full day of high-altitude sightseeing, we head down to Skardu city for the night.
Day 5: Return Journey from Skardu Back to Chilas Base
After breakfast, we bid farewell to the valley and begin our return journey along the gorge highway back toward Chilas. This 8-to-10 hour return drive offers a second look at the stunning landscapes of the Indus canyon. We arrive in Chilas by late afternoon for a relaxing dinner and an overnight hotel stay.
Day 6: Final Drive from Chilas to Rawalpindi / Islamabad
Today marks the conclusion of our 6-day northern travel route. After breakfast at Shangri-La Chilas, we make our final push back to the capital. Depending on seasonal road openings, we will travel either via the high-altitude Babusar Top and Naran Valley or backtrack smoothly along the Karakoram Highway to drop you off safely in Islamabad or Rawalpindi.
