One Day Shigar Valley Tour Itinerary
8:00 AM – Departure from Skardu: We will start our trip to Shigar after having breakfast, with a comfortable 1-hour drive from Skardu to Shigar Valley. The road follows the Shigar River and offers spectacular views of rugged mountains, traditional Balti villages, and lush green fields.
9:00 AM – Visit Sarfaranga Cold Desert: The first stop is the famous Sarfaranga Cold Desert, known as one of the highest cold deserts in the world. The vast golden sand dunes surrounded by snow-covered peaks create a landscape unlike anywhere else in Pakistan. Adventure lovers can enjoy optional activities include, Jeep Safari, Horse riding, or motorgliding, etc. Spend time walking across the dunes and capturing incredible photographs.
10:30 AM – Blind Lake: Continue to the peaceful Blind Lake, a hidden turquoise lake surrounded by mountains. The calm atmosphere makes it an excellent place to relax, enjoy nature, or take memorable photos. Boating is available depending on the season.
12:00 PM – Shigar Fort: Next, visit the beautifully restored Shigar Fort (Fong Khar), originally built in the 17th century. Carefully preserved by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, the fort now serves as both a museum and a heritage hotel. Explore the traditional Balti architecture, historical artifacts, royal chambers, and beautifully landscaped gardens while learning about the rich history of Shigar Valley.
1:30 PM – Lunch: Enjoy a delicious lunch at the garden restaurant inside Shigar Fort or choose from one of the local restaurants serving authentic Balti cuisine.
2:30 PM – Amburiq Mosque: After lunch, visit the historic Amburiq Mosque, one of Pakistan’s oldest wooden mosques and an important cultural landmark. Built more than 700 years ago, the mosque features remarkable wooden craftsmanship and offers a peaceful atmosphere against the backdrop of towering mountains.
3:30 PM – Scenic Stops Around Shigar: Before returning, enjoy short photo stops at Apricot orchards (seasonal), Traditional Balti villages, Shigar River viewpoints and beautiful mountain landscapes
4:00 PM – Return to Skardu: Begin the scenic drive back to Skardu, arriving by early evening with unforgettable memories of one of Baltistan’s most beautiful valleys.
