Nestle Pakistan Is Installing Benches And Garbage Bins Made From 100% Recycled Plastic Waste In Hunza.
In order to realize the global vision of a zero-waste future, Nestlé Pakistan has recently stepped up its efforts under the Gilgit and Hunza Clean Project, installing benches and trash bins made of 100% recycled plastic in Hunza.

The Clean Gilgit & Hunza project is a waste management program in collaboration with Nestlé Pakistan, Gilgit Baltistan Waste Management Company (GBWMC), and KADO. By encouraging waste management of 200,000 kilograms of plastic in 2021, it will focus on the waste management and recycling systems in Gilgit and Hunza, and eventually produce 1,000 tons by 2025, making the area waste-free and Promoting Sustainable Tourism Industry in the area.
Muhammed Ali Randhawa, Minister of the Interior of the Gilgit-Baltistan Government, commented on his views: “Given the way Nestlé plays a responsible role, we encourage companies and private sector entities to move forward. Development so that we can facilitate them in such projects.”

Waqar Ahmed, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Nestlé Pakistan, said at the meeting: “We are accelerating actions to reduce the environmental impact of different types of packaging waste. Our vision is that Any of the packaging (including plastic) will not enter the landfill or the ocean, lakes, and rivers. We are happy that these banks and trash bins are made of 100% recycled plastic waste, which completes the cycle of minimizing waste and promotes recycling as an economic step.”

Trash bins and benches have been placed in popular tourist attractions in Hunza to encourage waste management. Earlier this year, Nestlé Pakistan also installed two waste plastic compression packaging machines in Hunza and Gilgit respectively.
These compressed bonds were transported downstream for recycling. In addition, Nestlé Pakistan also donated reusable bags to the district councils of Gilgit and Hunza to distribute to the communities. “The handling of packaging waste requires teamwork, and we are committed to finding improved solutions to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste. To achieve this goal, we are committed to ensuring that our packaging is 100% reusable or recyclable by 2025, and this move is a step in this direction.
This project follows the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 17: Responsible consumption and production and a partnership to achieve goals, to reduce the environmental impact of packaging waste by improving its management and recycling.
